Littlecote house is a magical, historical hideaway, amazing tales lie behind the walls of this Tudor treasure. Discover and enjoy!

Littlecote House Hotel in Berkshire is a luxury 4 star country house hotel,  close to the picturesque town of Hungerford.  A stay here is a true step back in time as this 16th century Tudor building provides a unique insight to the life and times of mediaeval royalty and all the scandal and real murder mysteries that the history books have documented.

This is a Gothic romantic Grade I listed " Tudor Treasure" and proud to be part of the Warner Leisure collection.  I arrived on a late sunny autumn afternoon and took a stroll around the stunning landscaped gardens which also boast a 2nd century Roman mosaic.  Only an hour's drive from London, this is easily accessible from the M4 and very handy for an indulgent romantic escape back in time.

Here you can relax and unwind in your indulgent luxury getaway. Littlecote House does not accept any guests under the age of 21. The focus is on providing you and your partner with luxury accommodation, fine dining options in a stunning historic setting.  You will also have a wonderful choice of exciting and enthralling activities and entertainment.  This is the perfect recipe for your grown up getaway!

After my stroll around the grounds I attended the Champagne welcome reception drink where the theatrical team explained more about the history of the house and also about the activities avaialble during my stay. As I only had time to stay for one night, one of the staff very kindly offered to give me a personal historical guided tour.

After a glass of Champagne in the elegant Chinese Room (with silk painted wallpaper and exquisite furnishings) we then proceeded to explore the house and ventured up and down various stairways and landings, the old Chapel has not changed since Cromwell, and the haunted room was squite spooky since it was only one day after Halloween.

Mediaeval banquets in Littlecote's Long Gallery take you back to the days where Jane Seymour and Henry VIII were together, the place is steeped in history and as you relax with a book in the library you can relive those regal moments.  There is plenty to do should you wish to leave this historic gem, Windsor Castle and Blenheim Palace are not far away and or you can visit the quaint antiques shops in Hungerford.   Ascot and Newbury are also close by should you fancy a flutter on the horses.

As with the other hotels in this collection you will be spoilt for choice with the vast range of activities on offer, when planning your luxury getaway.  There is a wide variety of activities to suit all tastes, so please check the programme when planning your dates.  As well as the indoor pool and fitness centre,  there are also some fabulous experiences and classes to treat yourselves to such as Whisky tasting, Sushi Making,  Cocktails and Canapes, Salsa, Art classes, Digital Photography and for something really great ( and productive) to share with the kids when you get back home - chicken keeping classes!   For something more challenging and dynamic,  there is the fast car (eg  Lamburgini, Aston Martin) experience, as well as hot air ballooning.

There are also several highly popular VIP concert nights, as well as Comedy and Cabaret nights planned throughout the year. If you are celebrating an extra special occasion, then you can also upgrade and book a front row VIP table with Champagne and waiter service.

Alternatively, you may choose to come here just for the truly historic and pampering  luxury getaway, in which case, you can always relax after dinner in the Kennet Lounge with a night cap or a cocktail or two.

Accommodation and mini break packages have been designed to give you a choice to match your budget.  Rooms are graded from Standard Rooms - which are modern and crisp and clean, the more premium Signature Rooms  providing you with an elegant and contemporary environment - some have patios overlooking the beautiful gardens- perfect for a glass of Champagne before dinner.  Historic Rooms offer a unique character and charm taken from the history of the Old House.  These rooms include indulgent additions such as roll top baths, LCD TVs and luxury linens.

Your break here includes Full English and continental breakfast and 3 course evening meal. For dining options, there is Oliver's Bistro (Cromwell's doesn't seem very romantic) set in a contemporary setting with gentle reminders of the previous guests. Here Head Chef Neil Dore serves Modern British cuisine with a creative flair.  Alternatively I chose to eat in The Popham Restaurant (named after Judge Popham a former owner). Here you can enjoy a choice of traditional British selections with a modern twist and sourcing local seasonal produce as much as possible. The service was very attentive and friendly, I would suggest though as I did to arrive slightly later than most to avoid any rush at the carvery!

Littlecote House has something for everyone for your grown up getaway, whether it's a romantic country break, a weekend away with the girls, or an enlightening and memorable activity experience with friends.  Please check out the hotel website for further information.
