Black Swan at Oldstead, North Yorkshire

The Black Swan, Oldstead, Coxwold, Near Helmsley, Yorkshire

Internet Access Restaurant

The Black Swan’s credentials speak for itself. It is the only pub in Yorkshire to be awarded 3 AA Rosettes and a Michelin Rising Star 2011. And to top it off you can stay in one of the 4 beautifully furnished rooms which have recently been awarded the highly acclaimed 5 AA Yellow Star.  The Black Swan is a hidden gem tucked away in the pretty hamlet of Oldstead, nearby the famous hillside landmark, Yorkshire's Kilburn White Horse and just a short hop off the A19. It is the perfect base in which to explore nearby market town of Hemsley, popular coastal town of Whitby and York.

The original building dates back to the 16th century and the Banks family who purchased the Black Swan in 2006 have worked hard to achieve their vision of a quality, charming establishment in which to enjoy a unique luxurious stay, a relaxing drink with friends or a gourmet meal with loved ones.

The accommodation is newly renovated to an exceptionally high standard and is situated in a quiet south-facing wing overlooking beautiful rolling countryside. All the rooms are on the ground floor and each opens onto an individual terrace with a comfortable seating area. Featuring quality antiques, solid oak floors, stylish soft furnishings, welcoming sofas, really comfortable king-size beds (two rooms have four poster beds), luxurious bathrooms with limestone tiles, under-floor heating, beautiful cast iron roll-top baths, one copper bateau bath, walk-in wet-room shower areas and luxurious Molton Brown toiletries.

Expect a warm friendly welcome from the owners, The Banks Family, who clearly have a passion and knowledge in the exquisite food served and the extensive wine stocked which is matched by a refined service.

There is a characterful bar which features a stone flagged floor, an open log fire and oak fittings by Mousey Thompson Craftsmen of Kilburn. The restaurant has a comfortable friendly atmosphere with Persian rugs and antique furniture and the private dining room is ideal for parties up to 20 people.

The menu presents a carefully balanced choice of exciting innovative dishes and refined classical favourites strongly tied to the seasonal availability of top quality ingredients from local producers.

Mr and Mrs Jones from Stokesley reviewed the Black Swan and Restaurant on behalf of Away without the Kids and summarises:

“The accommodation, was beautifully furnished with dark wood period furniture and a gorgeous 4-poster bed whilst the bathroom was modernistic with wet room and roll top bath. One feature which we both liked was the individual private patio with curved walls, tables and chairs looking out across fields to the South of the Black Swan. Our entire experience of fine dining at the Black Swan was something our taste buds would not forget for a long time. Both our meals were a gastronomic delight, attractively presented and we thoroughly appreciated the friendly charm that the pub exudes matched by the unobtrusive but attentive service from our hosts."
