Loch Melfort is a stunning romantic coastal retreat. Luxury accommodation, superb fine dining with perhaps secretly one of the most breathtaking sea views in the UK. Hope to visit again one day- this time with my husband. If you enjoy sailing you can even take up a mooring there.

Loch Melfort is a charming and elegant luxury 3 star hotel set in the most amazing location overlooking the beautiful Asknish Bay and the surrounding islands of Jura, Shuna and Scarba.  Just 20 miles from Oban on Scotland's west coast, this hotel is easily accessible about 2.5 hours drive from Glasgow.  Recently voted Scotland's most romantic hotel, this is perfect for your well deserved Scottish getaway.

This is a small, family run hotel, owned and managed by Rachel and Calum Ross and the friendly relaxed atmosphere prevails throughout.  I was warmly greeted on arrival and taken up the grand staircase to my suite. The view from the large balcony was amazing as the sun came out across the bay.  My suite was extremely spacious with a living and dining area as well as a fully equipped luxury bathroom. It was a beautiful day and I decided to take the winding path from the gardens down to the pebble beach below.  Again the views along the way were stunning and the sea was so calm and tranquil, perfect for an afternoon walk before dinner.

The hotel main building has kept many of the original Victorian features such as wood panelling and cosy fire places in the lounges. There are 5 suites in the main house and another 20 ensuite rooms in the Cedar Wing, each of which has a terrace or balcony overlooking the sea.  For fine dining, the 2 AA Rosette Asknish Bay Restaurant, is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for two, serving a delicious 5 course dinner with delightful soup and canapé courses accompanied by the finest freshly caught fish and sea food as well as locally grown herbs and vegetables.  There are two beautifully furnished lounges which are great for afternoon tea or a pre dinner cocktail. The cosy fire here is ideal for a night cap too.  There is also the Chart Room II Bistro for more casual options, again with great views of the bay, where live Scottish folk music is played on the first and third Friday every month.

There is plenty to do around Arduaine; from the lounge window we could see buzzards and there are boat trips out to see whales, seals and otters.  Oban is only 30 minutes away and the islands in the bay are well worth a visit. There are some great walks around the area as well as fishing, sailing and golf available. This is the perfect place to relax, unwind and escape from the outside world. For some extra relaxation you can also treat yourself to some pampering in the therapy room.  All in all, my stay at Loch Melfort was most memorable, a perfect romantic hideaway, with stunning views and superb fine dining.  Check out the hotel's website for more discoveries and don't forget to mention Away without the Kids when booking.
