Wow, the perfect hip urban getaway, great ambience in the bar and restaurant and delightful boutique rooms to retire to!
The Commercial Hotel, Chester is an individual and characteristic boutique hotel, restaurant and bar, right in the heart of Chester's vibrant Historic City Centre, nestled away in St Peter's Courtyard just off Northgate Street. This is a welcomed new addition to the hotels on offer in Chester and once inside what is now described as Chester's Hidden Gem, you will soon come to realise what a truly special place this is. For me this is the perfect combination of a luxury boutique hotel with relaxed but high quality dining in a classic but contemporary setting, a true urban hip retreat. It was a weekday afternoon when I arrived, yet the bar downstairs, with its light background music, lavish decor and authentic artworks adorning the walls oozed ambience, a subtle hint that this great for a weekend away with friends or a romantic city break in Chester.
This newly opened hotel is privately owned and run by a hands on, highly experienced and creative team. This is almost an ongoing art project as unique artworks and bespoke wall paper feature throughout and more are planned to appear soon (watch this space) The brasserie boasts a fantastic and quirky tribute to Chester's cultural Roman history - an amazing Carry on Cleo themed work of art!
Romance is key here as each of the four luxury en-suite rooms and sumptuous suite have been named after romantic poets such as Shelly, Coleridge, Wordsworth, Keats and Byron. Each one has its own unique charm and character with ornate furniture and poetry books to help set the scene. They all have king size beds, flat screen TV, Wifi and tea/ coffee making facilities. The bathrooms have separate bath to power shower and are ideal to unwind and relax after your day out in town. The best room in the house is the fabulous Lord Byron Suite, which offers a separate lounge and an oversized bathroom to die for!
There is plenty to do in and around Chester and you are only a few paces away from all the fabulous attractions that Chester has to offer, such as the historical heritage sites, river cruises, a plethora of boutique designer shops and of course the glamorous Chester Races. The surrounding Cheshire countryside and the spectacular North Wales scenery are also just a short drive away.

There is plenty to do in the Commercial too, with 2 Bars and brasserie on the ground floor and Harrisons restaurant and cocktail Bar on the first floor. There is also nightly entertainment such as comedy, live music, quiz nights and dj's until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. This gem of a place is spot on for your boutique city break, and with only five rooms it really is a special treat, you'll need to book early to avoid disappointment.
